Telework & Flexible Arrangements

Working from home isn’t just a benefit that supports work-life balance; it can help save you time, money, and stress by reducing the number of days you commute each week. If your workplace has a teleworking policy, consider reaching out to your office administration about taking advantage of the benefit.

Skymark residents have an array of options for focused and productive telework. Skymark offers multiple coworking spaces that residents can use for remote work, school, or any of your needs that require focus. Plus, all apartment units and amenity spaces have Wi-Fi access to stay connected throughout your day.

Flexible Arrangements

Off-Peak Commuting/Staggered Schedule

Avoid commuting during peak rush hour by starting your commute before 7 a.m. or after 9 a.m. to save yourself the stress of traffic and lines at the parking garage. Whether you commute on the early or late side, you can get a jump start on the day at your home office or with the gym facilities and coffee shops once you’re at the office.

Compressed and Seasonal Schedules & Flex Time

Compressed schedules typically follow a weekly or bi-weekly pattern based on your company’s policy, which allows employees to reach their hourly commitment in a shorter timeframe.

Common examples of a compressed schedule include:

9/80: 80 hours completed over a 9-day period (typically results in having every other Friday off or similar arrangement)

4/10: 10 hours worked each day during a four-day workweek

Seasonal Schedules

Some employers who have a slower period offer a seasonal schedule to provide employees with more flexibility. For example, this can take shape in the form of having the option to switch to a compressed schedule during the Summer or ‘Summer Fridays’ where employees are able to log off early on Fridays during a slow period. Your employer may offer a seasonal schedule option like these that you can utilize to get ahead of the peak rush hour or avoid commuting when possible.

Flex Time

Flex time can be a similar policy to the ones mentioned above but is available year-round for employees to take advantage of. While policies range by employer, flex time allows you to work additional time in a week or pay period so you can log off within the same week or pay period for things like doctor’s visits, leaving early for a long weekend, etc.

Why Should You Try It?

Flexible schedules allow you to avoid traffic, lines at parking garages, and offer increased work-life balance

Utilizing flex time or a compressed schedule helps you plan for doctor’s appointments and vacations without having to use your paid leave, helping you save up your leave for a time when you can really disconnect from work

Staggering your arrival and departure time at work helps you avoid traffic jams and long lines during rush hour. Start the morning in the comfort of home and commute once traffic has settled or commute early and spend some time at the gym, a coffee shop, or tackling emails so you can leave earlier in the afternoon.
